Introduction
For many years AERO has been helping people who want to start new educational alternatives from many different approaches, including democratic schools, homeschool resource centers, public and private alternatives, charter schools and more. Our ultimate goal is to encourage a system of educational approaches which is learner-centered and empowers students, teachers and parents.
Lately, we have been receiving an increasing number of requests for help. Until now we have tried to help people and organizations one at a time. Therefore we have decided to set up a program for those who want to create learning alternatives, as a way to serve people better, and support the "education revolution."
AERO Mentor Listserve
The centerpiece of the program is a special listserve just for people who want to start new alternatives. In addition to the AERO staff, we have gathered an outstanding group of experts from a variety of educational alternatives to be on the listserve, to mentor and aid people who want to start new programs. Our list of mentors
includes long-time veterans as well as people who have recently started alternatives. Click here to see a full list of the mentors.
In responding to questions by subscribers, the mentors can respond to the whole list if they think it would be generally useful, or just to the individual.
Read feedback about this listserve from school starters and experts by clicking here.
Consultations
Phone or in person consultations can be arranged with the mentors on the list. We are suggesting $65 an hour for a phone consultation.
AERO Membership
Enrollment in the Start a 'School' Program entitles you to an AERO Membership. This includes a one-year subscription to the Education Revolution Magazine - AERO's primary publication and networking tool, free placement of job ads in the magazine and on the jobs section of AERO's website, subscription to the Education Revolution Electronic Newsletter, and 10% of all future purchases through AERO.
Archives of the Mentor Start-Up Listserve
The Archives of the Mentor Start-Up Listserve are available for those enrolled in this program. The archives feature past conversations among starters and experts that have been compiled and sorted based on subject. Some topics include "Stimulating interest in the children," "Parents: Calming Their Fears," Founding Procedures," and more. If you are enrolled in the Start a 'School' Program and do not have the information about viewing the archives, email us at info@educationrevolution.org.
Other Resources
Other resources will be available to subscribers. We are compiling the laws for starting schools in every state, and the contact people in each state department of education. We also have books and videos which may be helpful in your quest.
Enrolling Details
Enrollment in this program is $35, which includes the Mentor listserve, AERO Membership and Education Revolution Magazine as described above. Each successive
month of the listserve is $10. We will renew it every month at that rate and
you may unsubscribe at any time. For present AERO Members and Education Revolution Magazine subscribers, the introductory cost is just $10 with the same $10 rate
for each successive month.
